The Australian Chemistry Quiz competition, is conducted annually by the Royal Australian Chemical Institute, which is the professional body for Chemist Found in 1917.  Over the years the competition has been conducted in number of countries especially in the Asia Pacific region.  These countries include New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Fiji, Philipines, Vietnam, Cambodia, Western Samoa, Israel, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Switzerland, England, India and Sri Lanka.

The Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon conducted the competition for first time in Sri Lanka in July 1997.  The consecutive 11th competition was held on 28th July 2007 in 40 centers through out the island.  11, 846 students in year 11 and 9097 students from year 12 took part in this competition. 

The all island Chemistry Quiz contest 2007/2008 was held on 27th Oct. 2007.  Students from 176 schools from all districts of Sri Lanka participated in this contest.

The Award ceremony of the Australian National Chemistry Quiz competition and All Island Interschool Chemistry Quiz competition was held in May 2008 at Adamantane House.  The chief Guest of this occasions was Mr. T. Kandasamy (Retired Government Analyst).
