INSTITUTE OF CHEMISTRY GOLD MEDAL

The award is for an outstanding research contribution in the use of any branch of Chemical Sciences for National Development in Sri Lanka. Credit will be given for the utilization of local raw material and where the contribution has already resulted in a positive impact in the development and innovation in industry.

This prestigious award which will comprise of a Gold Medal presented at the Annual Sessions. The recipient of the award shall be invited to deliver the " Gold Medal Award Lecture” at the Institute’s Annual Session. (CRITERIA FOR THE AWARDS)

CRITERIA FOR THE AWARDS


1.
(a) Applications and nominations are invited on the prescribed form (Form C) for the above awards to reach the Hony. Secretary of the Institute of Chemistry on or before the 30th December of each year.

(b) Nominations of eligible candidates shall be entertained only from higher educational institutions, research institutions and members of the Institute of Chemistry Ceylon.

(c) Applications will be entertained from any qualified Chemists.

(d) Applications and nominations will be entertained only on an individual basis. In the case of joint work, those involved in such work could apply on an individual basis, stating the degree of the individual's contribution.

These awards are open to citizens of Sri Lanka engaged in the practice of the profession of chemical sciences and for work carried out principally in Sri Lanka.

In the case of Kandiah Memorial Awards the work presented for the award should have been carried out within five years of the closing date for applications and/or nominations for the award
   
3. Awards will, however, not be made if the work submitted is not of a suitable standard.

These awards will be presented at the Annual Session of the Institute of Chemistry, Ceylon. Work previously presented and recognized for any award shall not be taken into account again unless further development work has been done to a significant extent.
   
5.
The recipient of each award shall be invited to deliver the respective Award Lecture on the work submitted, at the Annual Session of the Institute.
   
6. The applications and nominations should be accompanied by the following:-

(i) Seven copies of a detailed Curriculum Vitae.
(ii) Seven copies of an outline (not exceeding 2000 words) describing the contribution.
(iii) Seven copies of all relevant material (publications and patents) in support of the Application.
(iv) A certificate from the Head of the Institution to certify that the work has been carried out by the applicant/nominee at that Institution
(v) A copy of a recent passport size photograph.
(vi) Seven copies of an abstract (not exceeding 500 words of the proposed award lecture, duly signed by the applicant or nominee). A copy of the abstract shall be made available to the referee(a).
   
7. The medium of communication shall be English.
   
8. The decision of the Council on all matters pertaining to the awards is final.
